Under the above heading, Igor Sobotin wrote, in “Nezavisimaya Gazeta”, about the obstacles encountered by the “political passage” in Libya, despite the ostensible agreement of the parties. So what is hidden?
The article states: A decade has passed since the protests began, which quickly turned into civil conflict in Libya, and Libyans still live in a state of uncertainty regarding the new power structures, which were officially launched under the auspices of the United Nations. The meeting of the House of Representatives, which was scheduled to take place on February 15th on neutral territory, was postponed, with the aim of discussing more political crossing steps. Against this background, it was announced that the head of the Government of National Accord, Fayez al-Sarraj, had left the country.
The former Jamahiriya is now going through a process of merging the powers, after official approval from the parties to the conflict, but without noticeable enthusiasm.
There are some concerns about the “on the ground” situation. Ankara, which affirms that it will “continue to develop cooperation with Tripoli in the new period,” is accused of strengthening its military strength in the west of the country. It is now suspected that the eastern Libyan camp is also reinforcing its positions.
Officially, according to the deadline set by the peace agreement last year, foreign forces were supposed to leave Libya in the second half of January.
But the expert of the Russian International Affairs Council, Kirill Simionov, believes that the new Libyan authorities may try to work with all external powers. He told “Nezavisimaya Gazeta”: “But in the end, everything will depend on how it is approved by the House of Representatives, as problems actually began to appear, because the session will be held in Sabratha in the West, while Aqila Saleh (the Speaker of Parliament) opposes that.” .
According to Simonov, the Turkish side will not withdraw its military forces. As for the Gulf states, they have not officially deployed any forces. The main problem is the willingness of the LNA sponsors to acknowledge their presence. After that, something can be practically talked about.
