It occurred simply after 12 a.m. Monday close to the overpass at Essential Road off Exit 23 in Flushing.
Police say the 52-year-old motorist had stopped within the left lane and was altering a tire when he was struck by a passing automobile.
The sufferer was taken to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, the place he was pronounced lifeless.
