The first week of the year is not over yet and 2023 is letting itself come like a fat woman on a slide.

The arrest of Ovid Guzman, a few days before the start of the North American Summit, confirms that the new cycle has stepped on the accelerator and that the destination is 2024. A year of jubilee. In which the doors of the presidential elections in Mexico and the United States open at the same time.

Hence the speed of the “slide ride” in which we approach the prelude to what the Summit represents, which the Mexican government has decided to enter victorious.

Now, it is impossible to deny that having caught the son of El Chapo represents a double hit. The first in terms of public relations before the upcoming event, and the next in terms of security before one of the most violent periods in the history of the country.

Why didn’t they do it before? Or rather, why did they release it in 2019?

That is an answer that can only be found within political times.
Ovidio Guzmán is considered, along with his brothers Iván Archivaldo, Jesús Alfredo and Joaquín Guzmán López, a fundamental target for US justice because they are members of the Sinaloa cartel.

In December 2021 the government of Joe Biden offered a reward of up to $5 million for relevant information leading to the capture of one or all of the Guzmán brothers.

His cartel is considered one of the main introducers of fentanyl into US territory and its consumption has caused more than 100,000 deaths per year. In addition to this, the timing of his capture, for extradition purposes, could not have been better.

Biden arrives in Mexico on Monday at noon to participate in the North American leaders’ summit and hold bilateral meetings with AMLO. It will be his first visit to Aztec lands.

I feel the latter is the framework within which he has announced that he will visit the border with our country and that he will give a speech on security and the arrival of migrants from the south. This will also be his first visit to the border and it must not be forgotten that there are no coincidences in politics.

The issue of immigration is particularly sensitive for the White Housewhich is currently working to implement a sustainable strategy that allows it to control a 3,000 km long border.

Illegal arrivals at the border with Mexico are already breaking all-time records, with more than 200,000 apprehended in November alone.

The immigration crisis on the southern border is also one of the favorite topics of the Republican opposition, which despite the fact that a power vacuum is currently allowing them to stone Kevin McCarthy, they are not forgetting Joe Biden, much less the the next year.

The same thing happens in Mexico and while some agreements are transformed, others expire. Because change is the only constant and the lesson is that nothing is guaranteed in life.

This is how the panorama looks towards 2024 and although the president likes to talk nice to the south, in the end, as a fat woman on a slide, he does everything necessary to keep the north happy.

Which predicts that AMLO is going to say goodbye to Biden better than they started. Sometimes goodbye kisses are sweet.
