Paramount+ has officially renewed Taylor Sheridan’s espionage thriller Lioness for a third season. The series stars and is executive produced by Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman.
The formal confirmation arrives 10 months after the show’s second season concluded. The delay was reportedly due to contract negotiations for Kidman, whose new deal was finalized earlier this year, and the logistical challenge of coordinating the leads’ demanding film schedules.
While the renewal was just announced, news of a third season surfaced in August at the unveiling of a new production campus in Fort Worth, Texas. At the event, 101 Studios CEO David Glasser revealed that Lioness Season 3 was slated to begin filming at the facility in October, following production on Landman and The Madison.
The second season of Lioness followed Joe (Saldaña), Kaitlyn (Kidman), and Byron (Michael Kelly) as they deployed a new operative to counter an emerging domestic threat. The high-stakes mission forced Joe to confront the personal sacrifices demanded by her leadership role in the clandestine program.
The cast for Season 2 also included Morgan Freeman, Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez, and Michael Kelly. For her performance, Kidman earned a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The series is executive produced by Sheridan, Glasser, Saldaña, Kidman, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and others.
