Liverpool scored a 3-1 victory over Benfica in Lisbon, which will facilitate their task at Anfield next week.
Klopp rested his two stars, the Egyptian Mohamed Salah, and the Senegalese Sadio Mane, in the second half, in preparation for the meeting with Manchester City on Sunday evening.
French defender Ibrahima Konate (17th) and Senegalese Sadio Mane (34th) scored for Liverpool, while Benfica, Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez, reduced the score in the 49th minute, with a mistake by Konate, who scored the first goal.
But the star of the first meeting, the Colombian Luis Diaz, settled the match with a third goal, in the 87th minute, after he had given a decisive pass on a “golden plate” to Mane in the second goal.
The result came to give the “Reds” a moral boost before the Manchester City clash, in the English Premier League, on Saturday evening, which Liverpool will enter with full focus after distributing the effort to the attacking players against Benfica, in a “smart” way from coach Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool will host Benfica, 8 days later, on Wednesday evening, April 13, at Anfield.
