According to Britain’s new defense strategy and foreign policy, Britain intends to develop trade relations with China, in parallel with ensuring national security.
The document says: “The growing power of China in the international arena is, by far, the most important geopolitical factor in the world today, and this factor has major implications for British values and interests, and for the structure and shape of the global system.”
The document describes China as an authoritarian country with values that differ from European values. But the British strategy, at the same time, indicates that China plays a positive role in the global economy.
The document says: “China and Britain benefit from bilateral investment and trade, but China in particular, among all countries, is also the biggest threat to Britain’s economic security.”
