López Obrador urges UNAM to clarify whether there was plagiarism in the thesis of Minister Yasmín Esquivel

Andrés Manuel López Obrador, President of Mexico, urged the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) to speed up the opinion work to clarify whether or not there was a case of plagiarism in the bachelor’s thesis of the minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Yasmín Esquivel.

The president’s exhortation to the UNAM came after Minister Esquivel was accused in recent days, in the context of the election of a new minister president of the Supreme Court, of having plagiarized in 1987 the content of her bachelor’s thesis to graduate from the then ENEP Aragon.

The election of the new president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation should take place in the next few days, for which López Obrador urged the UNAM to speed up this ruling.

It is that what the UNAM can do (…) The rector can convene the committee; that they look for a way, but it is a matter that will help transparency, ”said the president.

“The minister is already asking that the UNAM carry out an investigation and get to the bottom, and I see that well: that the specialists and authorities investigate and issue an opinion on this matter,” he commented.

López Obrador also expressed his support for Minister Esquivel and said he had known about her career more closely for six years.

“The talkative bloc is afraid,” said the president. “They maintain that she is our candidate, which is not true, because we do not have candidates. They are afraid that she will be president, ”added López Obrador this morning in his morning conference.

On her occasion, Minister Esquivel reported that she began writing her thesis to graduate in law in 1985.
