October madness? Here’s how MLB’s wild postseason will work
SportsPulse: 16 teams will play in this year’s unprecedented MLB postseason. Mackenzie Salmon explains how the format, the bubbles and everything in between will work this October.
Chicago White Sox starter Lucas Giolito, who threw a no-hitter on Aug. 25, held the Oakland Athletics hitless for the first six innings in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series on Tuesday, retiring the first 18 batters he faced.
Giolito had six strikeouts through six innings, throwing 51 of 73 pitches for strikes.
The White Sox took the lead in the second inning on a solo homer from Adam Engel and got two more on Jose Abreu’s home run in the third.
The 26-year-old Giolito was an All-Star in 2019 and had a 3.48 ERA with 97 strikeouts in 12 starts this season.
Chicago acquired Giolito in a Dec. 2016 trade with the Washington Nationals, which sent outfielder Adam Eaton to the nation’s capital.
