Tremendous what was experienced last night at the Capital One Arena. The Clippers, sunk in the first half after being up to 35 points down, were able to turn the score around and end up winning with seven points from Luke Kennard in the last nine seconds of the game… Wizards’ debacle, Californians’ heroics.
“This month of January has been wild. You never know when the game is over. You just have to play until the horn sounds,” says Amir Coffey, who scored a career-high 29 points.
The reality is that the Clippers have made history in January. With this latest comeback against Washington they have signed up to three with a disadvantage of at least 24 points (the previous two against the Denver Nuggets and the Philadelphia 76ers). Such a streak has made them the first team to do this since at least the 1996-1997 season.
Last night they raised an almost impossible game, and it was like that until almost the last moment. With 11 seconds remaining the Wizards were still up six points. It was then that the miracle happened with the signing of Luke Kennard (25 points). The shooting guard scored a triple to leave his team within three points, then Washington lost possession by taking more than five seconds to serve and Kennard himself took advantage of it with a triple and additional free throw after a foul by Bradley Beal. In the blink of an eye it went from 115-109 to 115-116.
