A luxury penthouse in Battersea Power Station has emerged on the market for £8.2million – but it only has a handful of rooms and the owner will have to pay another £150,000 for a parking space.

The lavish, three-bedroom duplex penthouse is part of the £9billion redevelopment of the disused coal-fired plant in south London, which had been empty since it was decommissioned in 1983.

It was finally bought for £400million by a Malaysian consortium in 2012, and the Grade-II* listed site, on the south bank of the River Thames, has since been transformed into 253 luxury apartments.

It is also home to a cinema, shops, and US tech giant Apple’s new offices.

This particular property is on the 11th floor of the old Battersea Power Station, affording its new residents astonishing views over the River Thames.

It is on the market for £8.2million, with three bedrooms and a stylish open kitchen, lounge and dining room area.

The home, at Boiler House in the landmark designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, also features three bathrooms.

And those who shell out the heavy price for a home in this iconic building will also have access to glorious views from a roof terrace which extends from the main living area.

There is also a balcony on the upper level, allowing the new homeowner another vantage point to look out over the London skyline from the comfort of their home.

The homes inside Battersea Power Station were designed by architects WilkinsonEyre, who ‘took great care in bringing this landmark back to life paying homage to its history but infusing it with a 21st-century style.’

The interiors were curated by Michaelis Boyd, a collective of architects and designers based in London, who took care to make sure the apartments ‘resonate with this original, irrepressible character, striking the right balance between energy, calm and the building’s former life.’

Those interested in buying the property would need to fork out another £150,000 to park their car.

Its exterior features original brick and steelwork dating back to the 1930s, with details inside including high ceilings, central air conditioning, a concierge service and a walk-in closet in one of the bedrooms.

The property – marketed by Nest Seekers – offers a total of 2,381 sq ft, and 1,294 sq ft of that is outside.

The listing reads: ‘Nest Seekers London is proud to list this stunning 2381 sq ft, three bed, three bath duplex penthouse at Boiler House in the Battersea Power Station.

‘A fantastic and luxurious penthouse with terraces and views over the development on the banks of the Thames.

‘If you ever thought what living inside of an art deco power station would be like, well now’s the time to own part of this iconic landmark designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott.

‘After many years of being a ghost building, its re-incarnation was thoughtfully executed by architects WilkinsonEyre all the while in keeping with a 21st-century vision.’

The redevelopment of the Battersea Power Station is part of a wider project to create a new, evolving neighbourhood in south London.

The area will eventually feature 3,444 homes over four neighbourhoods, including 517 affordable homes.

There are 253 apartments in the former power station, along with a cinema, shops and US tech giant Apple’s new offices.

In 2014, Sting and his wife Trudie Styler bought an apartment off-plan in a block at the site designed by US-based architect Frank Gehry and Britain’s Foster + Partners.

Grylls also bought his flat there off-plan in 2015. He plans to live there with his wife and three sons.

Studio flats start at £865,000, four-bedroom family apartments cost at least £4 million and penthouses are £21.5 million.

The power station had been empty since it was decommissioned in 1983 and was finally bought for £400 million by a Malaysian consortium in 2012.
