Lyon star Memphis Depay’s move to Barcelona is OFF after Ousmane Dembele’s proposed switch to Manchester United fell through… with Nou Camp giants unwilling to buy without freeing up space in their squad
- Memphis Depay starred for Lyon last term in the Champions League and Ligue 1
- He attracted interest from new Barcelona coach Ronaldo Koeman this summer
- Barca wanted Ousmane Dembele to leave if Depay was to come to the Catalans
- However, Dembele’s move to Manchester United has collapsed on deadline day
The Old Trafford side backed-out from trying to sign Ousmane Dembele, ending their interest after realising Barca weren’t interested in a permanent deal for the winger.
With the Catalans only willing to pursue Depay if Dembele left the club this summer, Ronaldo Koeman’s side have ended talks, according to RMC Sport.

The 26-year-old will now stay in Ligue 1 this season after a stunning 2019-20 campaign
Lyon had reportedly got so far as sending Barcelona the necessary documents to complete the move, but the forward will now be staying in Ligue 1 next season.
Talk of either Depay or team-mate Houssem Aouar leaving had cooled after Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas had insisted neither player would be sold this summer.
However, a last-minute U-turn saw the French club’s sporting director, Juninho Pernambucano, reveal that it was ‘possible that he will go to Barca, but it is not certain.’
Depay was a driving force behind the French side’s incredible 2019-20, seeing them fight past Manchester City and Juventus in the Champions League before eventually falling to Bayern Munich in the semi-finals.

The 26-year-old will miss out on European football this season as, despite their European exploits, Lyon could only manage seventh place in the French top-flight.
As for Dembele, the Nou Camp flop will have to continue scrapping to revive his Barcelona career after being struck with injuries and poor form since joining the club for £117m in 2017.
The Frenchman has played just 20 minutes of football in Koeman’s side’s first three games in LaLiga this season, with the Dutch boss preferring Antoine Griezmann and Ansu Fati either side of Lionel Messi in his system.
