(CNN) — Three decades after the release of her album “Erotica” and her raucous book “Sex,” Madonna reflected on changing the norms of how women can now talk about sex in an Instagram story.
The 1992 book included nude photos of the pop icon taken by photographers Steven Meisel and Fabien Baron, as well as images simulating sexual acts and bondage scenes. Vanilla Ice, Naomi Campbell and other models appear throughout the 128 pages of the book.
On her Instagram story, Madonna wrote that she “also wrote about my sexual fantasies and shared my point of view on sexuality in a tongue-in-cheek way.”
He immediately received negative reactions for the publication.
“I spent the next several years being interviewed by narrow-minded people who tried to shame me for empowering myself as a woman,” she wrote. “They called me a bitch, a witch, a heretic and a demon.”
Despite the controversy, the book sold millions of copies, reaching number 1 on the best-seller list of The Washington Post y The New York Times.
Madonna, 64, contrasted her experiences with younger musicians and public figures who may be more open about their sexuality in public.
“Now Cardi B can sing about her WAP. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her bare butt and Miley Cyrus can walk in like a wrecking ball,” she wrote.
“You’re welcome, p****s.”
