Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that his country asked the European Union and the United States to cancel the freezing of its government funds, in order to be able to pay for the vaccine against Covid-19, but they refused the request.
Maduro added, in a health meeting: “The governments of Portugal, Spain, Britain and the United States, as well as financial institutions in these countries, have frozen funds and blocked access to the vaccine.”
The President of Venezuela stated that his country had requested “through the World Trade Organization to provide us with funds, but this request was rejected.” He said, “The vice president spoke with the foreign ministers of these countries, but they refused the request.”
The United States imposed a full set of sanctions on Venezuela, the most powerful and effective of which were, freezing the country’s accounts in Europe, as well as freezing the assets and interests of the oil and gas company PDVSA in the United States worth 7 billion dollars, as well as prohibiting dealing with it.
