Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the army’s readiness to defend the country’s sovereignty in the event of any “aggression” by Colombia.
“I have assured the National Armed Forces of the Bolivarian Republic that they must respond firmly to the reckless statements (of Colombian President) Ivan Duque regarding Venezuela,” Maduro said in a televised address on Wednesday.
Maduro added that “he must be answered if he dares to violate the sovereignty of Venezuela.”
It is reported that Venezuela and Colombia always exchange accusations about hostile moves by the other side.
The Venezuelan president has repeatedly accused Colombia of preparing a coup against him, while Colombia accuses the Venezuelan authorities of supporting leftist rebel groups inside Colombian territory.
