Main dams in Querétaro at only 8.6% storage, the lowest level in the country

Queretaro, Qro. The seven main dams in the state are on average at 8.6% of their storage capacity, until February 21 of this year, according to the National Water Commission (With water).

In this way, the entity registers the lowest level of filling in its bodies of water, among the 26 entities that group the 210 main dams in the country.

Until February 21 of this year, after Querétaro -the state with the least filling of its main dams-, is Morelos with 26.5% storage, Tamaulipas with 32.7%, Baja California with 33.5%, Aguascalientes with 36.3%, Nuevo León with 40.7%, San Luis Potosí with 41.2%, Coahuila with 44.4%, State of Mexico with 48.6%, Sinaloa with 49%, Sonora with 53.3%, Michoacán with 58.6 percent.

With storage above the national average (59.8% in the 210 main dams in the country), the list continues with Chiapas whose priority dams are at 63.3%, Jalisco at 64.3%, Oaxaca at 65.2%, Guanajuato at 65.9%, Nayarit at 66.2%, Zacatecas 66.8%, Tlaxcala 68.6%, Puebla 71.6%, Hidalgo 73%, Veracruz 80.5%, Chihuahua 82%, Durango 83.2%, Colima 90% and Guerrero, which reports the highest level of filling in its main reservoirs, 91.1% on average.

Querétaro, the state that lost storage the most in a year

At the national level, Querétaro, which ranks as the state that most water storage has lost in the last year in its main dams, after reporting a drop of 52.8 percentage points: it fell from a filling level of 61.4% -to which it was on February 21, 2022- to 8.6% on the same day of the year in progress.

Therefore, Querétaro is part of the 19 states that registered an annual drop in the storage of their priority dams; after the entity is San Luis Potosí, which in one year lost -26.8 percentage points of filling (went from 68 to 41.2%); Guanajuato follows with -20.8 percentage points less (from 86.7 to 65.9%); Zacatecas fell -20.4 points (from 87.3 to 66.8 percent).

With decreases below 20 percentage points, there are Aguascalientes with -19.6 points below the storage of a year ago (from 55.9 to 36.3%), Puebla with -19.2 points (from 90.8 to 71.6%), Michoacán with -18.7% (from 77.3 to 58.6%), Nayarit with -17.8 points (from 84 to 66.2%), Hidalgo with -16.8 points (from 89.8 to 73%), State of Mexico with -16.4 points (from 65 to 48.6%), Tlaxcala with -15.3 points (of 84 68.6%).

And only seven states increased their storage level in one year: in the Guerrero dams the filling percentage increased 0.5 points (it went from 90.6 to 91.1% on the reference dates), in Baja California it increased 4.1 points (from 29.4 to 33.5 %), in Sinaloa 17.1 points (from 31.9 to 49), in Durango 22 points (from 61.2 to 83.2), in Sonora 23.6 points (from 29.7 to 53.3%), in Coahuila 28.6 points (from 15.8 to 44.4%) and in Chihuahua 41.1 points (from 40.9 to 82%).

Meanwhile, the national average fell 1.1 percentage points, going from 60.9% filling on February 21, 2022 to 59.8% on the same day in 2023.
