Military expert Major General Fayez Al-Duwairi said that the Israeli army is not ready For urban warfareBecause he had never fought it before except in Lebanon in 1982 and 2006, and it was not an urban war in the real sense, stressing that what is happening in Gaza strip Currently it represents the true essence of this type of war.
Al-Duwairi pointed out that the United States tried to discourage the Israelis from entering Gaza, but they refused to do so, because their primary goal is Population displacement Fulfilling an old dream.
He said that Tunnels It is the title of this battle, noting that “all the armies of the world have not succeeded in confronting the tunnels,” adding, “It seems to me that they are networks, not a single network, and they are designed with different thinking.”
The military expert based his hypothesis on the fact that all the tunnels that the Israelis discover do not reach the main network and do not provide an operational service to the army, which means that there are tunnels prepared for specific missions, in his opinion.
Major defect
Al-Duwairi pointed out that the main flaw in Israel’s military approach is the mobilization of large armored forces, but they are not qualified for urban warfare. Because the only forces equipped for these wars are infantry supported by armor, according to him.
Regarding the size of the forces on the ground, Al-Duwairi said that the area of the southern sector is too small for a regular, not armored, division to enter, but Israel has mobilized 8 brigades, each with 105 vehicles, which means that each resistance fighter faces one vehicle and 10 individuals.
However, in Al-Duwairi’s opinion, these forces “will not be able to extend their control over Khan Yunis even if they enter it, because they will face what they faced in the northern Gaza Strip.”
The Israeli forces succeeded in creating a breach between Al-Zinna and Abasan Al-Jadidah, and another between Al-Zinna and Abasan Al-Kabira, and a strong push was made to Al-Qarara and another to Qush Qatif, Al-Duwairi says.
But the density of buildings and the lack of tunnel openings in Khan Yunis will be to the advantage of the resistance, because it will make its movements undetected, as is the case in Al-Shuja’iyaIn his opinion.
In contrast, the eastern region (Al-Zinnah and Abasan), which is characterized by the sparseness of buildings and the large number of tunnel openings, gives fighters freedom to move, but movement is fraught with danger because they are exposed, according to Al-Duwairi.
Although the occupation army changed its tactics in the south due to the nature of the land and the nature of the resistance, it did not benefit from the lessons of the past because it did not have a specific goal for these battles, according to Al-Duwairi.
