Online purchases are gaining strength in Mexico, time is saved, the product arrives at home, you do not have to leave home, in addition to the fact that sometimes there are better offers available, for all this, it is expected that the next Good End, which will be held from November 18 to 21, there is an increase in e-commerce.

According to the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce (Concanaco), it is expected that in this 12th edition of the Good End, just over 20% of the purchases made will be made electronically.

Although online shopping is an opportunity to save time and money, various security measures are required to avoid being victims of cyber fraud.

According to the Condusef, credit and debit cards continue to gain ground as an online payment method, for this reason it is very important to review the pages where you plan to make purchases and take care of banking and personal information to avoid fraud.

Currently, the perception of security in online shopping has improved and it is estimated that seven out of 10 Mexican buyers feel safe when buying online.

In order for the shopping experience through the web to have a happy ending and not to be a victim of fraud, the National Guard recommends that you be careful when sharing identification or official documents on websites.

When you find the product or service you want, it is suggested to check that the page that offers it is real and has the security elements, that is, the authenticity of the website.

Avoid filling out forms with personal data, account numbers or bank cards or after that delete the history and cookies from the phone or computer.

If the purchase will be made through an application, you must read the terms and conditions carefully before accepting them, ”explained the National Guard.

In turn, the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City recommends that if your thing is to make purchases online and if this Good End is your plan, try to install an antivirus on the devices you use and keep it updated.

It also suggests activating two-step verification and security filters offered by social networks and digital platforms.

In addition, it is important to avoid entering offer chains sent through messaging applications, such as WhatsApp, Facebook or other social networks.

Given this, doubt when they send you messages saying that some company is giving gifts, attractive offers and that to access them you must click on a link and enter your personal data.

Security measures in your banking app

There are tools that can help you protect your banking information and prevent someone else from using it. These are digital credit and debit cards, which are activated from the bank’s mobile app and have a dynamic Validation Value Code (CVV) that changes every time you use the digital card.

Also, in case you suspect that your physical card could be cloned or if it is stolen, within your mobile banking there is also the option to “turn off” the card and thus prevent purchases from being made with it.

Another security measure that exists within the banking apps is that you can select the transaction amount, either purchase or withdrawal per day, with this you avoid that if they want to make purchases with your card they cannot spend more than what you defined .

For example, you can set a purchase limit of 1,000 pesos or 2,000 pesos for withdrawals. The advantage is that you can modify it at the moment you decide.
