Malika Andrews ‘will take over from Mike Greenberg as host of ESPN’s NBA Countdown’ – after former leading man ‘mutually agreed to step down’

Malika Andrews continues to rise up the ESPN ladder and will become the host of NBA Countdown according to a New York Post report. 

Andrews will be taking over from Mike Greenberg, who – per Andrew Marchand – came to mutual agreement with the four-letter network. 

The show will now have yet another female host after Greenberg took over from Maria Taylor, and Sage Steele before her. 

Critically for Andrews’ brand, being on NBA Countdown will, as it did this year, include hosting the NBA Finals coverage. 

Greenberg’s heavy schedule will be resultantly lightened, allowing him to focus in on hosting ‘Get Up’, as well as his own radio show, ‘Greeny’ – which airs Monday-Friday.

According to the Post’s report, Mike Greenberg mutually agreed to step down from the role

Andrews has been with the four-letter network for several years after graduating back in 2017

Andrews will reportedly continue in her role as host of NBA Today while juggling Countdown commitments. 

The 28-year-old graduated with a communications degree from the University of Portland in 2017 and was a fellow at the New York Times before a year at the Chicago Tribune lead her to a position at ESPN.

Andrews’ ascension continues a progressive push from ESPN to place its female talent at the forefront of sports – and more specifically, NBA – coverage. 

Doris Burke is set to be the network’s primary co-analyst, alongside former 76ers coach Doc Rivers. 

Mike Breen will remain in commentary but his former, well-liked colleagues Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson were both relieved of their duties – to scorn from certain journalists, including BlazeTV’s Jason Whitlock.
