A New Hampshire man has been charged with assault after he was caught on video throwing a vase at a hotel worker’s head because she told him to put on a face mask.
Police are searching for Ayuen Leek, 23, of Manchester, New Hampshire, after an arrest warrant charging him with felony second-degree assault was issued Monday.
Manchester police said that they responded to a reported assault at the Holiday Inn Express in the city on December 8, according to WCVB.
A hotel worker told police that she had told a man in the lobby to put on a face mask, but that he had refused to do so.
The worker, who has not been named, said the man started yelling and swearing at her.
She then told the man to leave the premises, at which point she said he picked up a glass vase and threw it at her, before running out of the hotel.
Police identified Leek as being the man seen in this surveillance video from a Holiday Inn Express in New Hampshire, as he leans over to pick up a glass vase
The video caught the moment when Leek threw the vase at the hotel worker’s head, before running away. Leek’s arrest warrant was issued Monday
Surveillance video, timestamped at 11.23pm, captured the incident and showed a man walking past a bench, leaning over to pick up a vase and then hurling it at a woman’s head, before running off.
The woman is seen raising her hands in an attempt to ward off the vase, before it crashes to the ground and shatters.
Police identified the man as being Leek and, said that they discovered that he had gone inside the hotel multiple times the day of the incident, without wearing a face mask, CBS Boston reported.
Police said that Leek did actually put on a mask prior to throwing the vase at the hotel worker’s head.
The incident took place at this Holiday Inn Express in Manchester, New Hampshire. Police said Leek had gone into the hotel multiple times that day without wearing a face mask
New Hampshire currently has a statewide policy stating that all people over the age of five must wear face masks in both indoor and outdoor public spaces if unable to main six feet of distance from people not in their households.
This alleged incident would not be Leek’s first run-in with the law.
In 2015, Leek, then 18, was arrested and charged with robbery and second-degree assault after he allegedly grabbed a 47-year-old man’s wallet out of his hands outside a convenience store, WMUR reported.
Leek allegedly asked the man, who had been holding lottery tickets, if he wanted to buy marijuana and when the man reached for his wallet, Leek grabbed it and ran off.
Police said that the man found Leek hiding between two recycling bins and that they struggled with each other, leading to the man being hit in the head with an unknown object which cut him and left him bleeding severely.
The man was able to recover his wallet, but Leek escaped until he was found by police hiding inside an apartment near the store.
Anyone with information about Leek’s location is asked to call Manchester Police at (603) 668-8711.
