Man, 66, is in intensive care after getting the AstraZeneca vaccine – as ANOTHER is hospitalised with blood clots linked to the jab
A Queensland man is being treated in intensive care for blood clots and thrombosis which are believed to be directly linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young says the 66-year-old developed abdominal pains after receiving his first jab in Townsville on March 30.
He was later taken to hospital to be treated for deep vein thrombosis and remains in intensive care.
Dr Young said the TGA has confirmed to her they believe his illness ‘is a direct result of the AstraZeneca vaccine’.
‘So of course my thoughts go out to him and to his family, and it’s very difficult time for them,’ she told reporters on Friday.

Meanwhile a Tasmanian man is in hospital after also developing blood clots after getting the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine.
The 70-year-old reported symptoms seven days after getting the jab.
Australia’s medical regulator has found his case was likely linked to the vaccine.
Tasmania’s Department of Health has put together an expert advisory panel to review the local case.
Acting director of public health Scott McKeown is urging Tasmanians to keep getting the vaccine.
‘I want to reassure Tasmanians that vaccination remains the best way to protect against severe illness and death from COVID-19 and is a core element of the pandemic response,’ Dr McKeown said.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration will provide an update later on Thursday.
