A man accused of punching a bystander multiple times on the side of the head at a taxi rank has been charged with murder.
Alex Ollson, 28, was repeatedly hit by Peniola Liu, 30, while at a taxi rank on Edith Street, Innisfail, in Queensland, about 2.20am on Saturday.
The pair were involved in a verbal spat before it turned physical which saw Liu, a Tongan national, allegedly attack the father-of-two.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and performed CPR on Mr Ollson but he could not be saved after succumbing to his injuries.
He leaves behind two children and a partner.
‘There was no attempt to retaliate or defend himself. It is understood there was a significant disparity in the physiques of both men,’ Detective Inspector Kevin Goan told the Townsville Bulletin.

‘Investigations indicate that the offender was intent on having an altercation of some sort with his victim, and has approached the deceased who did little to retaliate,’ Det Insp Goan continued.
He said it remains unclear the level of intoxication and that Mr Ollson ‘never stood a chance’ against Liu.
The alleged attack was described differently to a one punch attack.
‘There was a volley of punches thrown. The deceased stood up after the first but succumbed.’
