LUNENBURG COUNTY, Va. (WKRC) – A man died after a bear, shot by one of his hunting partners, fell from a tree and landed on him.
Virginia’s Department of Wildlife Resources said a hunting group was tracking the bear when it climbed a tree. As the group moved away, a hunter shot the bear, causing it to fall onto 58-year-old Lester C. Harvey who was standing about 10 feet from the base of the tree, said New York Post reporting the department’s statement.
A member of the group administered first aid before Harvey was transported to two different hospitals. He succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
An obituary described Harvey as a married father of five and grandfather of eight. He was a self-employed contractor and an avid outdoorsman, according to NYP.
