Man fights for life in hospital with serious burns after a mobile phone EXPLODED and he went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance

  • A man was found with burns in a Lutwyche unit complex car park 11am Monday 
  • He was rushed to Brisbane Royal and Women’s hospital in a critical condition
  • QLD Police believe he was destroying phones while under the influence

A man is fighting for life in hospital with serious burns after a mobile phone exploded.

The 27-year-old was found in the car park of a unit complex in Lutwyche, in north Brisbane, following reports of an explosion about 11am on Monday.  

Paramedics arrived at the Thistle Street residence 10 minutes later and rushed the man to hospital in a critical condition.

Queensland Police believed the man was injured while pulling apart or destroying mobile phones.

‘We suspect that he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol,’ it said.   

The man is also believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest in the ambulance.

Queensland Ambulance Service said a man was taken to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Investigations are continuing.
