A Melbourne man busted in possession of what police described as the ‘most extreme’ form of child abuse material has been jailed.
The man, 43, will spend up to four years behind bars after the sickening find on his mobile phone.
He pleading guilty to accessing, soliciting, transmitting, possessing and making available the most extreme classification level of child abuse material.
Australian Federal Police officers attached to the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation launched an investigation in May last year following reports a website user was accessing child abuse material.
Officers’ inquiries identified a Caulfield North man from Melbourne’s south-east as the alleged user of this service.
Sickening child exploitation material was found on his mobile phone when the man was arrested by Victorian Police while executing a search warrant on June 1 last year.

He was charged with using a carriage service to access child pornography material and using a carriage service to possess child abuse material.
The man was charged with another 17 offences after AFP investigators found additional evidence in encrypted chats on his seized electronic devices.
He was granted bail at the time of his arrest but has now been taken into custody after his sentence was handed down in Victorian County Court this week, the AFP said in a statement.
Facing up to 15 years behind bars, he was sentenced to a maximum four years jail on Tuesday.

The man will serve at least two years and three months before he’s eligible for parole in June 2023.
The Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation remains committed to ending child exploitation and abuse and is at the centre of a collaborative national approach to combating organised child abuse.
