JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A person who jumped over a gate of the Vary of the Jaguar exhibit at Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens on Wednesday afternoon and caught his hand into the pen was clawed by one of many huge cats, staff and witnesses instructed News4Jax.
Jacksonville Fireplace-Rescue stated the person, who was described as in his 20s, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening accidents.
One witness stated the person was egging on the jaguars within the exhibit earlier than leaping the barrier. One other stated she noticed staff cleansing up a path of blood whereas the person was taken out along with his arm bandaged.
“That is a person that wasn’t utilizing his head,” deputy zoo director Dan Maloney stated. “He caught his hand in by means of the mesh that separates the jaguars from the skin.”
Maloney stated if the jaguar had been in a position to latch on, “it will have been a really completely different story.”
The zoo stated that is the one time anybody has been injured within the 11 years for the reason that jaguar exhibit opened on the zoo and emphasised that it’s protected for zoogoers who don’t soar over fences and have interaction the animals.
