A personal trainer charged over knocking out a thug who was harassing him and his girlfriend while they kissed has been cleared of any wrongdoing in court.
Harry Hronopoulos and his then-girlfriend Jade Conarty were kissing outside Town Hall in Sydney’s CBD in January 2020 when they were confronted by Jeyegganesh Eswaran and his friend.
A violent scuffle ensued, where Eswaran was knocked out by Mr Hronopoulos.
On Tuesday, Magistrate Michael Crompton threw out the charge of assault recklessly occasioning grievous bodily harm and accepted Mr Hronopoulos’ self defence claim.
Ms Conarty claimed the men asked why Mr Hronopoulos was on top of her, to which she responded: ‘He’s my boyfriend, go away’.
‘They continued to come over, calling me a b**ch,’ she said.

The court heard Mr Hronopoulos intervened when the men became aggressive towards his then-partner.
He was seen on CCTV punching Eswaran in the face, causing him to fall to the concrete, knocking him out cold.
When police arrived to the scene, Ms Conarty told them she was doing ‘absolutely nothing wrong’.
‘It’s my birthday. He is my boyfriend. This guy was the one who interrupted it all. Now, my friends are all out having fun,’ she said.
‘Sorry Harry has tried to defend himself. Harry tried to defend himself and he is getting arrested for trying to defend himself. That guy attacked me as well.’
Mr Hronopoulos, who had been on a pub crawl prior to the incident, told police he had been trying to protect and defend his girlfriend, who he felt was in danger.
Eswaran, who has a violent history, suffered critical head injuries in the melee and said he has been left him with memory loss.

Just last week Eswaran was sentenced for headbutting a man at McDonald’s.
Mr Hronopoulos’ barrister Phillip Boulten SC has made a bid for his client’s legal bills to be covered by NSW Police, arguing the case should never had made it to court.
‘It was clear enough from the start that this case was doomed for this result, in my respectful submission,’ he said, according to The Daily Telegraph.
A judgment on the costs application will be handed down in June.
