Manchester United coach Ole Solskjaer has said that he may not allow his star Yrono Fernandes to join Portugal during the international break if he is asked to go into quarantine upon his return to England.
Due to the restrictions imposed by the United Kingdom on arrivals from Portugal to fight the Corona virus, Fernandes may be forced to undergo a 10-day quarantine upon his return to Manchester.
Solskjaer explained in a press statement: “We have not made the final decision yet, but there is no logic if you lose your player for ten days … We are the ones who pay the players’ salaries … FIFA has given us the right not to leave the players.”
FIFA said that clubs have the right to refuse their players to join their national teams if they are asked to quarantine for more than five days upon their return.
Portugal will play Azerbaijan, Serbia and Luxembourg in World Cup qualifiers on the 24th, 27th and 30th of March, respectively.
If Fernandez is subjected to a ten-day quarantine upon his return from Portugal, he will miss United’s clashes against Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur on the third and tenth of next April.
