Manhunt for St. Johnsbury shooting suspect ends with arrest

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (WCAX) – The man accused of shooting a St. Johnsbury police officer, was arrested early Sunday morning.

Vermont State Police say Scott Mason, 38, St. Johnsbury, was taken into custody around 2:00 a.m.

Police say they obtained a search warrant for 251 Portland Street, the house next door to where the shooting happened, and found Mason inside.

This comes after officials say St. Johnsbury Police Captain Jason Gray was shot by Mason at 261 Portland St. around 4:30 p.m. when officers responded for a domestic violence incident on Friday.

Mason now faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer resulting in serious bodily injury. He also faces unrelated charges.
