I took advantage of the bridge to make adobes: I read the book El camino de México, written by Marcelo Ebrard, in order to comment on it in this column that I write on Labor Day. The publication issued by Penguin Random House, Grupo Editorial, with Aguilar’s stamp, consists of 315 pages of easy and pleasant reading, where, from the prologue to the last chapter, the author, in first person, reiterates, with direct and reasonable arguments, his desire to be the next president of the country and the preparation and experience acquired, through four decades of political life, to assume the position.

I warn my readers —if I have them— that I do not personally know Mr. Ebrard, I have never met him; But through his book, autobiographical and purposeful, I understand his desire and I recognize his great intelligence for political marketing; as well as his ambition —hopefully— to be president of our country.

Lines above I wrote that the book is entertaining and easy to read. I thought a lot to make that definition, it can be taken as excessive praise on my part. But no, I can categorically affirm that I have read many books written by politicians -or by their blacks but published under their name- and none, with the exception of the Memoirs of Gonzalo N. Santos, which is in the antipodes of Ebrard’s work. I found it more interesting. Here, paradox aside, I am going to clarify the adjective black, the Dictionary of the RAE, in its tenth meaning defines: black.- Person who anonymously does the work that is attributed to another, generally a writer. Marcelo, has the attention to thank the collaboration of Bárbara Anderson, “who was essential to organize and give shape to the text”.

I was struck by his family origin, the second son and first son of eight siblings, procreated by the couple Marcelo Ebrard Maure and Marcela Casaubon Lefaure, whose siblings, Jorge and Ivvone, respectively, married and had seven children. Of the 15 first cousins ​​with the same last names, only he who was head of the Government of the DF. he dedicated himself to politics —until now. We hope that if Marcelo’s desire is fulfilled, he will not have brothers or cousins ​​and/or cousins ​​with businesses that have to do with the government and its supply.

He highlights his time at La Salle University, from high school to undergraduate and, of course, his admission and stay at the Colegio de México where he arrived driven by his paternal grandmother, María de la Luz Maure y García del Valle, a feminist and Vasconcellista. , the family figure who most influenced the education and training of today’s chancellor, Mamagrande—he told him all his life.

Precisely at the Colegio de México, it was his meeting with Manuel Camacho Solís, of whom he was first a disciple and then a collaborator, who guided his first steps in politics, his mentor calls him and highlights his political qualities as a great negotiator, moderate, democrat and pacifist, under his protection he started his career in politics, at the age of 22.

In the aforementioned publication, Marcelo speaks with the greatest frankness that is permissible in politics, about thorny issues such as Line 12 of the Metro, painful issues such as what happened with the 1985 earthquake from which Camacho Solís and his student emerged strengthened, from his dissent on Fobaproa when he was a federal deputy and triumphant moments such as being named the Best Mayor in the World by the City Mayors Foundation.

In a measured manner, with caution and political intent, Marcelo highlights his relationship with Andrés Manuel López Obrador, his fidelity and his disciplined collaboration with his government; this without ceasing to insist on his own project of a different tessitura. Let’s see how the publication affects the mood of the top boss of Morena.
