Marches, a sign of democracy: Carlos Slim

Businessman Carlos Slim said he sees great economic potential for Mexico for the next 20 years due to the establishment of more companies in the country, as well as the increase in exports thanks to the trade agreement with the United States and Canada (T-MEC).

“I see that the potential is great because the trade agreement with the United States is very important and the opportunities to have a great activity no longer maquiladoras but as export partners is enormous. I believe that this is already beginning and it will be for the next 10, 15, 20 years that we will be able to have many companies”,

After attending a meal with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the National Palace, the businessman highlighted the recovery of the minimum wage, and estimated that at the end of the six-year term the loss of purchasing power will be reversed.

“It has been increasing substantially. It had a lag from 1982, and surely in this government the loss it had in those 40 years will be replaced, ”he stated.

Manifestation

Questioned about the march of thousands of citizens last Sunday in defense of the autonomy of the National Electoral Institute (INE), and about the march called by President López Obrador for November 27, the businessman replied: “it is the democracy that exists , which is very good”.

Wouldn’t you accompany the president on his march? he asked.

“I am already 82 years old and I no longer march,” he replied.

Carlos Slim attended a meal with the president along with the former presidents of Spain, Felipe González; from Chile, Ricardo Lagos; from Uruguay, José María Sanguinetti, and from the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernández, who will participate this week in the XXVII Plenary Meeting of the Círculo de Montevideo in Mexico City.
