Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Martha Stewart wants to help pet owners by soothing their gentle dogs, as the lifestyle expert announced a new line of dog food products that contain CBD, a cannabis compound.
Stewart’s new line of CBD pet foods includes chewing bits and 3 different oils, including wellness, calm and mobility oils, in different flavors like chicken and cranberry, according to a press release from Stewart’s partner, Canopy Growth.
The price of chewing pieces ranges from $ 20 to $ 25 depending on the size of the dog, while a bottle of oil sells for $ 40 for a bottle of 600 mg.
Stewart announced her cannabis product line, which includes pet food, last September, as a result of a partnership with Canopy Growth, the Canadian cannabis company backed by billions of dollars from Constellation Brands. Stewart joined Canopy as a consultant in early 2019 with the goal of developing hemp products for humans and pets after her boyfriend, Snoop Dogg, introduced her to the founder of Canopy. Canopy produces hemp products for Snoop Dogg under the brand name Leaves by Snoop.
“Just as cannabis can support human health, it has been shown to improve the quality of life for pets as well,” Stewart said in a press release.
The product packaging features images of “Chow Chow” and “French Bulldog” dogs, a design option inspired by Stuart’s pets.
The demand for pets has soared during the pandemic, as millions of people work from home and seek companionship at a time of social distancing.
CBD is a booming industry in the US, with the total market for CBD products estimated at $ 426 million in 2020 and expected to exceed $ 1 billion by 2024, according to industry data company Brightfield Group.
