(WBFF) — A mass shooting incident took place in Towson this evening.
According to Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough, 10 people in total were injured in the incident, with one death and nine hospitalizations reported.
Police officers responded to the area around 7:12 p.m. for a report of multiple gunshots.
The first officer to arrive on scene found a vehicle on its side and in flames, McCullough said.
Baltimore County Fire was alerted and responded minutes later, Fire Chief Joseph Dixon said.
The first units to appear quickly mitigated the fire and began providing treatment to victims, Dixon added.
McCullough said that the car appeared to catch fire after a crash, though he didn’t reveal what led to a crash.
While McCullough repeatedly emphasized that an investigation was ongoing and didn’t reveal much information, he did say that the incident appears to be targeted and that the individuals involved knew each other.
Shell casings were found scattered across the scene and gunshots hit the facade of the building, McCullough said.
McCullough was blunt about what his department’s response to this incident will be. “We will leave no stone unturned and will dedicate every available resource to this,” he said.
Baltimore County Executive and Congressman-Elect Johnny Olszewski Jr. called the incident “unheard of in Baltimore County” and pledged his support for BCPD in their investigation.
