House Republicans including Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene have invited Britney Spears to testify to Congress over her conservatorship battle with her father.
Reps. Andy Biggs and Burgess Owens also invited the singer to share her experiences of the legal battle against her dad in a letter on Wednesday.
They vowed to ‘stand with’ Spears, no matter what they decide.
‘The United States Congress should hear your story and be inspired to bipartisan action. What happened to you should never happen to any other American,’ the members wrote.
On Wednesday night the judge overseeing Spears conservatorship denied her request to remove her father’s control days after the singer made a passionate plea for freedom – after her court-appointed attorney waited months to file crucial paperwork.
In a letter to the popstar, led by Gaetz, the lawmakers insisted: ‘We want to help.’

Gaetz, however, is embattled himself as the FBI investigates claims that the Florida congressman engaged in trafficking of a minor by allegedly paying a 17-year-old for sex.
‘We hope you will choose to accept our invitation to express your interest in speaking to Congress and to America for the sake of the justice you and many Americans deserve,’ the letter continues, urging Spears to represent herself and others who feel they are unjustly under a conservatorship.
Judge Brenda Penny, presiding over Spears’ case before Los Angeles Superior Court, signed into effect a new ruling on Wednesday, which continues to give the singer’s father Jamie Spears control over her life – and her near $60 million fortune.
Jamie Spears has been head of Britney’s conservatorship since 2008 and is paid $16,000 a month to manage his daughter’s massive estate.
Further details on why Judge Penny made that decision have yet to be shared but a new petition calling for Spears’ freedom is expected to be filed soon.
The 39-year-old singer made headlines worldwide on June 23 with her request to resume control of her finances and life after 13 years under a conservatorship, which handed control of Spears’ financial affairs and daily life to her dad.
Reps. Andy Biggs and Burgess Owens also invited the singer to share her experiences of the legal battle against her dad in a letter on Wednesday.
A transcript of her lengthy court statement was published online this week.
Public outraged ensued over parts of the statement where Spears accused her father of forcing her to go to a therapist two to three times per week and not allowing her to get married and remove her IUD birth control so she can have another child.
Her court-appointed lawyer, Sam Ingham, was expected to file a petition to remove Spears’ conservatorship and Judge Penny said that she would make space in her diary for the hearing at which it could be lifted.
Ingham only filed the documents on June 25, which actually appointed Jamie Spears and the independent Bessemer Trust as co-conservators.
The documents had been expected after a hearing late last year.
In the documents, Britney’s request to remove her father was denied.
Spears’ request to suspend her father, James P. Spears, immediately upon the appointment of a financial institution as sole conservator of estate ‘is denied without prejudice,’ the Los Angeles Superior Court ruled.
Ingham is expected to file a new petition, requesting that the conservatorship be ended. It was unclear why he is yet to do so.
Spears responded to the news by posting two videos in which she appeared to be upbeat despite the setback.
The first Instagram video showed her rocking a number of different swimsuits as she swaying her hips side-to-side to 2018 hit Trampoline – despite being hit with the news that a judge denied her request to have her father removed from her conservatorship.
The video was taken from her Hawaiian getaway with boyfriend Sam Asghari.
Less than an hour later, she shared footage of herself ‘dancing in heels’ for the first time ‘in a while’ as she teased a ‘new’ project to her more than 31 million followers.
Marjorie Taylor Greene was one of the letter signers. She has been accused by Democrats of harassment in Congress
