(CNN) — The one where Matthew Perry tries to make peace with Keanu Reeves.
The “Friends” star appeared at the LA Times Festival of Books on Saturday and during a panel, told the audience that he plans to drop Reeves’ name from future editions of his memoir published in 2022 “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing”.
The memoir is a candid account of Perry’s struggle with substance abuse and addiction, but the actor faced backlash last fall over references to Reeves that some found offensive, including a snippet about his friend’s death. River Phoenix in 1993.
“River was a beautiful man, inside and out, too beautiful for this world. Seems like it’s always the guys with talent that fall,” Perry wrote. “Why do original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?”
Perry previously apologized for the comment, saying in a statement to People in October 2022 that he is “a huge fan” of Reeves and had only chosen a “random name” in the prose. “I apologize. I should have used my own name instead,” he added in the statement.
Perry referred to the mention of Reeves again on Saturday, this time telling the public: “I said something stupid. It was mean,” according to the LA Times.
“I took his name out because I live down the street,” Perry said during the panel, noting that “any future versions of the book will not carry his name.”
Although Perry has previously apologized to Reeves, he also mentioned Saturday that he has yet to apologize in person to the “The Matrix” star.
“If I run into the guy, I’ll apologize to him. It was stupid,” Perry concluded.
