Prospecting for gold
The Mauritania Minerals Company announced that search work is underway for seven missing people under the rubble of a gold exploration mine in the Shakat region near Mauritania’s northern border with Algeria.
In a statement issued on Sunday evening, the government company stated that one person was rescued alive at dawn today, and that 7 other people are being searched for, and that the army, gendarmerie and state administrative agencies are participating in the search operations.

The company announced the mobilization of all capabilities to save the missing.
The company warned prospectors not to leave the licensed exploration area, confirming that the accident occurred in an area outside the license area.
It is noteworthy that Mauritania has, since 2016, licensed its citizens to explore for gold in the north of the country, which contributed to improving the country’s production and income of gold.
