German club Bayern Munich is looking to move in the winter Mercato to include Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier to replace Moroccan Nassir Mazraoui, who is participating with the Moroccan national team in the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast despite injury.
Earlier this month, coach Thomas Tuchel publicly revealed his desire to appoint a new right-back before the transfer window closed.
Tuchel told reporters, “We are looking for a strong right-back in bilateral matches. We will see if something is possible.”
He added: “Nassir is in the African Cup (with Morocco), but we are also used to Konrad Laimer in the right-back position, although this is not his best position. If there is an opportunity in the market, we will do it, otherwise things will remain as they are.”
He added: “I understand why every coach in the national team wants his best players to be on the field. We would have preferred him to join later.”

Mazraoui has become the subject of a crisis between Bayern Munich and the Lions national team in recent days.
The club sent the medical team to Ivory Coast to conduct tests on Mazraoui.
Morocco coach Walid Regragui said in television statements: “Mazraoui continues to recover according to the plan drawn up between Bayern and the team doctor. He underwent a new examination here in Ivory Coast.”
Mazraoui appeared training alone during a training session for the Moroccan national team before facing the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He added, “I have no guarantees. I said previously that he might join us in the third match, and today I see that we may not see Nassir Mazraoui in the African Nations unless he is fully prepared.”
Although Bayern FC asked Regragui, through a letter addressed to the Moroccan Federation, not to include its player, Nassir Mazraoui, in the third match against Zambia, all indications indicate that this player may play some minutes against the Democratic Republic of the Congo if medical tests prove that he has recovered from the injury.
Regragui also intends to gradually integrate him into his battalion, before relying on him primarily starting in the 16th round.
Mazraoui did not participate in the first match of the “Atlas Lions” due to his continued rehabilitation from a muscle injury he suffered with Bayern.

Substitute player
The Bundesliga giants appear to have turned their attention to another England international, with multiple reports claiming they have identified Newcastle’s Trippier as a potential January target.
Bayern tried to sign Manchester City player Kyle Walker last summer, but this move ultimately failed, and the English player eventually extended his contract at Etihad Stadium.

Trippier joined Newcastle from Atletico Madrid for about 12 million pounds in January 2022.
The 33-year-old has been a mainstay in his team ever since, participating in 81 matches in all competitions, during which he scored 3 goals and made 18 others.
Despite his decline this season, Trippier helped Newcastle finish in the top four last season and qualify for the Champions League.
Trippier still has a little more than a year before his contract with St. James Park expires.
