“NBC” channel reported that US President Joe Biden is considering keeping his country’s forces in Afghanistan until next November instead of May, the date specified in the agreement with the “Taliban”.
The channel quoted one of the sources as saying that Biden, during discussions with his national security team, was opposed to the efforts of the Ministry of Defense to maintain forces in Afghanistan after May 1, but he was persuaded to study a 6-month delay in the withdrawal.
“Biden wants to withdraw,” the source said, but Pentagon officials told him that it was impossible to predict the consequences in the event of the withdrawal of all forces.

According to the second source, the military offered Biden several options, including withdrawing the forces around the beginning of May, and keeping them indefinitely or for a specific period that Biden himself determines, which may reach 6 months.
The source added, “The president is the one who will make the decision.”
The two sources indicated that a decision has not yet been taken in this regard.
It is noteworthy that the United States and the “Taliban” movement agreed in 2020 to withdraw American forces from Afghanistan in exchange for the movement’s guarantees that the territory of Afghanistan will not be used to attack American interests or the allies of the United States.
