US media reported that Mike Pence, the US Vice President, opposed activating the 25th amendment to the country’s constitution, which the Democrats are seeking to use to remove President Donald Trump from power immediately.
The “New York Times” newspaper quoted a person close to Pence as saying that the Vice President rejected the invitation addressed to him today by Democratic lawmakers and some Republicans due to the incident that hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building yesterday, before the two chambers of Congress approved the victory of Democratic candidate Joe Biden in the presidential elections .

The newspaper pointed out that Pence’s decision has the support of a number of senior officials in the Trump administration.
The “Business Insider” website confirmed this news.
Earlier in the day, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer asked Pence to activate the 25th Amendment and take over the reins of power before Biden’s inauguration on January 20.
This amendment provides for handing over the judgment to the vice president in circumstances including the death of the head of state or his loss of ability to perform the duties of the presidency.
Schumer and Pelosi threatened to launch impeachment measures in Congress if Pence refused to respond to their appeal.
