Victor Wembanyama is the ‘alien’ set to light up basketball but he was upstaged at his official NBA arrival by his older sister Eve at the Draft in New York on Thursday night.
In emotional scenes, Wembanyama wept as he was interviewed after being drafted first by the San Antonio Spurs and had Eve and his brother Oscar alongside him.
And it was there, as the ESPN interview turned to his family to allow him to compose himself, that the NBA world met Eve for the first time.
‘It’s amazing, we are all so proud,’ the 21-year-old said of her brother. ‘We are so happy for you, we are happy for the family, friends, everything for basketball – it is so amazing.’
The siblings then had a group hug as the magnitude of Victor’s new life started to sink in.

She documented a big night for her family and the NBA – there is huge hype over brother Victor

Later on Instagram, where Eve has been documenting her time in New York this week, she shared a montage of pictures with the caption: ‘Can’t believe this ain’t a dream.’
Her brother Oscar, meanwhile, changed his Instagram bio to read ‘Spurs fan now’ after Victor was officially drafted by the team.
Eve is an accustomed basketballer in her own right – she has played for France at Under 16 level and most recently was playing for Monaco in her home country.
She is a distinguished 3×3 player – the official Twitter account of 3×3 basketball shared a highlights reel of her in action, captioned: ‘Sorry Victor, our favorite Wemby plays 3×3. Eve Wembanyama is a danger!’
She might be the older sister, she’s not technically the big sister. Unsurprisingly she is not as tall as her 7-foot-4 brother – Eve stands at 6-foot-1.
Travel appears to be a key interest for Eve outside of basketball. As well as her New York pictures this week, she has shared snaps before from trips around Europe as well as her native France.
The Wembanyamas also seem to be close family – Eve often shares pictures together with her two brothers and always captions it with a heart emoji.

Their life is now set to change significantly with an explosion of interest into Wembanyama himself. He was the most nailed-on first pick in the Draft since LeBron James back in 2003.
The 19-year-old took what has been a whirlwind few days in his stride in New York this week but the occasion overwhelmed him when he was picked on Thursday night.
Life for Eve and the rest of the family will change massively now too, whether she is playing basketball in France or courtside in Texas later this year. Watching her brother play is soon to be the hottest ticket in town.
Wembanyama’s close control and agility is something so uncharacteristic for his towering height and it prompted LeBron to call him an ‘alien’ earlier this year.
Now, the French teen has started the journey to potentially join ‘The King’ as one of NBA’s all-time greats.
