Controversial Hollywood actor and Lethal Weapon star Mel Gibson
plays the somewhat controversial Christmas icon Santa Claus (is it okay to lie to and trick children?) in the action movie Fatman
, which is all set to stream for free. The Academy Award winner and Braveheart actor and director plays a very different version of Chris Cringle than we’re used to, with this gruff take on Santa feeling apathetic about the state of the world, low pay, and the growing viciousness of humanity. In desperation, he decides to join forces with the U.S. military…with catastrophic results.
Written and directed by Eshom Nelms and Ian Nelms, Fatman stars Marianne Jean-Baptiste as Ruth Cringle a.k.a. Mrs. Claus and Fallout and The White Lotus star Walton Goggins as Jonathan “Skinny Man” Miller, an assassin with a personal grudge against Santa. Fatman will sadly miss Christmas this year, but the movie will be a gift to action fans at the start of the new year, landing on Tubi
on January 1. In the meantime, check out the official synopsis below.
“To save his declining business, Chris Cringle, also known as Santa Claus, is forced into a partnership with the U.S. military. Making matters worse, Chris gets locked into a deadly battle of wits against a highly skilled assassin, hired by a precocious 12-year-old, after receiving a lump of coal in his stocking.”
‘Fatman’ Caused an Unfestive Divide Between Critics & Audiences at the Time
Fatman resulted in a huge divide between critics and audiences, with the former scoring it just 44% on Rotten Tomatoes while the latter gave it 84%. As far as critics were concerned, Fatman takes a far too serious approach to this action-oriented Santa (unlike, say, the fun-filled brutality of Violent Night), though many heaped praise on Walton Goggins’ turn as a betrayed child-turned-hitman with a grudge as Mel Gibson’s not-so-jolly Saint Nick.

Monster Summer stars Mason Thames & Mel Gibson talk about making each other better actors and Gibson’s next project.
While he may never return to the North Pole, Mel Gibson, whose career and personal life have been littered with controversy, has now slithered his way back into Hollywood, and will return to both the action genre and behind the camera for the upcoming thriller, Flight Risk. The action outing will reunite Gibson with his Daddy’s Home and Father Stu co-star Mark Wahlberg, who ditches the heroism (and his hair) to star as the villain of the piece. Set to be released by Lionsgate on January 24, 2025, the rest of the cast includes Michelle Dockery as FBI agent Madelyn Harris, with Topher Grace starring as Winston, an informant and her prisoner. Wahlberg, meanwhile, stars as the mysterious Daryl Booth, a hitman sent to “take care” of Grace’s Winston. You can check out the official synopsis for Flight Risk below.
“In this high-stakes suspense thriller, Academy Award® nominee Mark Wahlberg (Actor in a Supporting Role, 2006 — The Departed) plays a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.”
