(Trends Wide) — Then-first lady Melania Trump declined to call for peace and non-violence as insurgents stormed the United States Capitol building on January 6, two sources with knowledge of the day’s events told Trends Wide.
Sources told Trends Wide that Trump’s adviser Stephanie Grisham texted him, “Do you want to tweet that peaceful protests are the right of every American, but that there is no room for anarchy and violence?” to which Melania Trump responded with one word: “No.” Grisham details the account in his next book titled “I’ll Take Your Questions Now,” according to some sections that were published in Politico this Monday.
Trends Wide reported in January that Melania Trump was at the White House during the insurrection, overseeing a photoshoot of a rug she had installed. At no time on January 6 did she decide to suspend the photo shoot, nor did she publicly pronounce in any way about the atrocities being committed by supporters of her husband, President Donald Trump, two miles away, on Capitol Hill, even while barricades were broken down and crowds poured into the Capitol building.
It was not until January 11, five days after the insurrection, that Melania Trump partially condemned the violence.
Trump made a statement Monday regarding Grisham to Politico, saying: “The intent behind this book is obvious. It is an attempt to redeem himself after poor performance as a press secretary, failed personal relationships, and unprofessional behavior on the job. White House. Through falsehood and betrayal, it seeks to gain relevance and money at the expense of Mrs. Trump. “
Grisham was a loyal Trump adviser for more than five years, briefly serving as the White House press secretary before returning to the East Wing as Melania Trump’s chief of staff during the last year of the administration.
He resigned from his post on January 6, not long after he texted Trump asking if he wanted to speak out against the violence on Capitol Hill.
Grisham’s book will go on sale on October 5.
