Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador added, in a press conference today, Monday, that “the United States realizes that Mexico must defend its authority and position in the matter of former Mexican Defense Minister Salvador Cienfuegos, who was accused by US prosecutors of working with drug traffickers.”
And former Mexican Defense Minister Salvador Cienfuegos returned to his country, from the United States, last November, after Washington dropped the criminal charges against him, according to a source in the Mexican Attorney General’s office.
The United States arrested the former Mexican minister in Los Angeles last October, accused of his involvement in drug trafficking and money laundering, but Cienfuegos denied the charges against him.
It is reported that Cienfuegos was Minister of Defense in the government of former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, between 2012 and 2018.
