The Mexican government reported that it has taken into consideration the concerns of five energy companies with Canadian capital: Northland Power, Atco, Canadian Solar, CDPQ y Pattern.
Since last January 18, the first four of these companies were attended by the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Previously, the president received Pattern, which has Canadian and North American capital. This was received with US companies, as reported by the Ministry of Economy on Monday.
The Secretary of the Economy, Raquel Buenrostro, attended this Monday to representatives of Northland Power, Canadian Solar and CDPQ.
Before, the Ministry of Economy had received representatives of ATCO and Pattern. “These last two no longer have a pending issue of electrical energy,” said the Ministry of Economy.
Through a tweet, the Secretary of Economy said that Buenrostro and representatives of Canadian companies in the energy sector met in Mexico City to follow up on the agreements reached in a meeting with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and agreed to meet at the end of next month to assess progress.
On January 9, the Canadian government expressed concerns about certain policies and actions established by the Mexican government regarding energy and mining.
This message was expressed by Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Businesses and Economic Development of Canada, to Buenrostro, who met in Mexico City within the framework of the X Summit of North American Leaders .
“Minister Ng conveyed Canada’s concerns regarding Mexico’s energy reforms and their potential effects on Canadian investment, noting the importance of finding a mutually acceptable solution. In addition, Minister Ng expressed her concern about the treatment Canadian mining companies receive in Mexico and the need for transparent processes for mining sector permits,” the Canadian government said then in a press release.
“Ng noted that Canadian companies, including those in the mining sector, are leaders in establishing inclusive and sustainable labor practices,” he added.
