Mexico and Turkey will resume negotiations for a free trade agreement

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Marcelo Ebrard, announced that bilateral relations with Turkey will be resumed through the negotiations of a free trade agreement between both countries.

Ebrard, who is visiting Ankarahe commented in a joint conference with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavasogluthe situation of their bilateral relations, as well as international affairs.

Both reiterated their commitment to deepen their strategic partnership. “It is a constructive policy, investment, development and technology, innovation. That is what the relationship between Turkey and Mexico is about,” Ebrard explained.

“There are many fields of common work: migration, culture, investment, joint work for development initiatives (…). Mexico views all of this very favorably, including the Free Trade Agreement or Agreement that we can have between the two economies, it is convenient for both countries”, declared the Mexican minister, according to a statement from the SRE.

For his part, Cavusoglu said that the adoption of a joint declaration “will further improve” relations between the two countries “in all areas.” “Our goal is to reach a trade volume of 5 billion dollars,” he said in a message on his Twitter account.

With this objective, the ministers have agreed to organize a second meeting “as soon as possible” to carry out a “comprehensive review of the economic relationship and identify the steps to follow to further increase trade and investment”, ensuring that the deadline for the meeting would be 2024.
