Mexican Health Minister Jorge Alcoser said that his country’s scientists may finish developing a Mexican vaccine against the emerging corona virus by the end of this year.
The minister’s announcement came during a meeting of the National Health Council on Sunday, according to the Ministry of Health statement.
Alcoser considered vaccination one of the most important tools to combat the epidemic and overcome its economic consequences.
According to rough estimates of the authorities, more than 2.38 million people have been infected with the Coronavirus in Mexico since the end of February 2020, while 197,827 people have died of the virus, and more than 1.73 million patients have recovered.
Since the end of December 2020, Mexican authorities have used more than 5.45 million doses of vaccines from various manufacturers to protect health care workers and the elderly.
