Mexico City Metro appoints Francisco Echavarri as the new Deputy General Director of Operations

The Collective Transport System (STC) Mexico City Subway reported that Francisco Echavarri Hernández is the new deputy general director of Metro Operations, as a result of the removal of his previous head after the collision of two trains on Line 3 last Saturday that caused the death of a woman and left a total of 106 people injured, according to the latest report from the Commission for Attention to Victims From Mexico City.

According to the information card, the new deputy director is an industrial engineer from the National Polytechnic Institute and a Master’s Degree in Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

“It has diplomas in International Transportation taught by the Engineering Division and in Public Administration, both by UNAM,” the brief statement pointed out.

Echavarri Hernández has a track record of 35 years of experience in the Mexico City Metro in areas of operation, transportation, and project coordination.

He also served as operations manager for Alstom Panama, as well as advisor to international consulting companies in engineering and underground systems.

At noon, at a press conference, the director of the STC Metro of the country’s capitalGuillermo Calderón Aguilera, reported that it was decided to dismiss Alberto García Lucio as head of the General Sub-directorate for Metro Operations on instructions from the Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, and also due to the investigations being carried out by the Attorney General of Justice of Mexico City around the incident that occurred at 9:16 a.m. on January 7.

Calderón explained that last night the Metro Advisory Council held a session to establish a technical committee for external supervision of Line 3, with which an investigation will be carried out and the new operations of this route will be seen, which had to be suspended partially after the collision of the convoys.
