Mexico will ask the US for more humanitarian visas for Venezuelans: AMLO

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador He said this Friday that he will ask the United States to expand the number of humanitarian accesses to that country for Venezuelan migrants, as an agreement with Washington advances that contemplates granting 24,000 visas for now.

Thousands of Venezuelans have been returned to Mexico by the United States since the new agreement began on October 12, according to the World Organization for Migration (IOM), amid protests against the measure in border cities contemplated in the agreement.

We are going to request that more be delivered,” said the president in his usual daily press conference.

López Obrador was in favor of regularizing the entry of migrants from Venezuela with this mechanism, to prevent these groups from being victims of abuse by the criminal mafias that are dedicated to human trafficking.

AMLO considers it “necessary” for the US and Venezuela to recover relations

President López Obrador said this morning that it is “necessary” for the United States and Venezuela to recover their diplomatic relationsin the midst of the humanitarian crisis generated by the arrival of migrants from the South American country at the Mexican-American border.

Washington and Caracas broke off relations in 2019, during the administration of Republican Donald Trump, but with the arrival at the White House of Democrat Joe Biden, the US position softened.

It is necessary that relations between the Government of the United States and Venezuela be restored; I am aware that they are already looking for an agreement,” AMLO said in his usual daily press conference.
