(Trends Wide) — The families of the victims and survivors of the Champlain Towers South collapse in Surfside, Miami-Dade County, Florida, which left 98 people dead, have agreed to an interim settlement of more than $997 million.
Harley Tropin, one of the lead attorneys for the plaintiffs, announced the settlement during a hearing Wednesday afternoon and it still needs final approval.
A portion of the Champlain Towers South building collapsed in the middle of the night on June 24, 2021. The victims ranged in age from 1 to 92.
“This is incredible news,” said Judge Michael A Hanzman of the Miami-Dade County Circuit Court.
