A Miami firefighter who stated he experienced no regrets following video clip captured him punching a handcuffed client in Oct who allegedly spat at him has dropped his task pending an investigation, officers explained.
“If he never ever knew the consequence of spitting in a grown man’s experience, then consider my steps community education and learning and this movie a PSA,” Robert Webster instructed NBC Miami on Tuesday.
Webster, who was a lieutenant with the Metropolis of Miami Division of Fireplace-Rescue, told the information outlet he is not remorseful for attacking a handcuffed affected individual on Oct. 15 in the emergency space at the Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Webster could not be quickly attained by NBC News on Wednesday for comment.
A representative with the Miami Section of Hearth-Rescue responded to requests for comment Wednesday from NBC Information about the alleged incident involving Webster with a statement about how a firefighter was relieved of responsibility pending an ongoing investigation.
“The Metropolis of Miami Division of Fire-Rescue was made knowledgeable of a video clip produced of an incident involving a Miami Firefighter,” the statement claimed. “When this incident happened, the unique was right away Relieved of Obligation. Our division is conducting an administrative investigation though this personal stays in a Relieved of Responsibility position.”
NBC Miami also noted the video, which experienced no audio, lasted about 40 seconds.
The Tv station recognized the patient who was handcuffed as Antonio Cruz. NBC Miami received a law enforcement report of the incident and noted Cruz was “agitated and screaming to the rescue personnel,” according to the police report.
The news outlet also described Cruz experienced consumed cocaine and heroin. The video demonstrates what seems to be Cruz spitting in the route of Webster.
Webster then, according to the video, rushes at Cruz and appears to punch him at least twice before other individuals restrain him.
NBC News does not know what preceded the online video or if it was edited.
Miami police on Wednesday had been emailed concerns about the incident, movie and the law enforcement report, but did not straight away reply.
It was not crystal clear if Webster or Cruz had been criminally billed in connection to the incident.
