Michael Jordan is involved in his NASCAR team more than ever since selling the Charlotte Hornets for $3billion earlier this month, says driver Denny Hamlin
Michael Jordan has invested more of his time in his NASCAR team, ever since he sold his majority share in the Charlotte Hornets earlier this month, according to the other co-owner of 23XI Racing, Denny Hamlin.
Jordan, 60, has been seen vacationing on his yacht in the south of France over the last few weeks, but that hasn’t stopped the NBA great from being pre-occupied with with following his racing team more closely since the Hornets were acquired by Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin for $3billion, last Thursday.
‘Certainly, he’s involved in more meetings,’ Hamlin told reporters on Saturday. ‘Now, he wants to be on every branding email. I’m like ”Oh boy, this could be interesting.”
‘So, yeah, I think he has some more time and perhaps he’s gonna use that more on the race team.’
The NBA’s Board of Governors voted 29-1 on the ten-figure sale, with New York Knicks owner James Dolan serving as the lone objection.

Jordan, who will remain on board with a minority stake in the Hornets, became majority of owner of the Hornets in 2010, leading the franchise to the playoffs just twice. He had been the league’s lone Black majority owner.
‘The opportunity to be the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets in my home state of North Carolina for the last 13 years has been a tremendous honor,’ Jordan said in an open letter to fans, adding that ‘this is not a goodbye’ to basketball.
‘I’m proud of all that the organization accomplished: the exciting on-court moments, the return of the Hornets name, Charlotte hosting the 2019 NBA All-Star Game and HSE becoming a true pillar of this community. Through the years, the unwavering commitment, passion and loyalty of our Hornets fans has been incredible.
‘As I transition into a minority ownership role, I’m thrilled to be able to pass the reins to two successful, innovative and strategic leaders in Gabe and Rick. I know the Hornets organization is in great hands moving forward. I’m excited about the future of the team and will continue to support the organization and the community in my new role in the years ahead.’
